Heathrow Report Highest Passenger Numbers Since Pandemic

Summer is approaching, and it seems passengers are ready to set off...

Heathrow Airport recorded its highest passenger numbers and the busiest month for the company since the pandemic began back in 2020.

In March, the company reported the Airport was used by 4.2 million passengers. This represented an 800% increase compared to the same month in 2021.

However, this could not reach the heights shown in February 2020, right before the pandemic. Passengers in February 2020 reached 5.4 million.

Heathrow stated the increased demand could be pinned to improved leisure and travel during weekends and school holidays. However, airlines have struggled to cope with the spike in numbers after staff absences and difficulties recruiting.

The rise in passengers comes after the government's decision to remove all travel restrictions.

"It is fantastic to see the airport coming back to life after two years, and I want to thank all team Heathrow colleagues for working together to serve our passengers," commented Chief Executive John Holland Kaye.

The news has seen UK airlines gain this morning.

EasyJet shares rallied 3.3%. IAG shares gained 1.2%. Wizz Air increased 1.23%.
